Average temperature in winter varies from +1,5 C in the lowland to – 6 C in mountains. Middle temperatures in July are +18C in the lowlands and +20C in the south valleys. Rains are 50-80mm a month; it is raining in all seasons. Religion: 29,5 million people are Protestants, 28 million are Catholics, 40 000 are Jews, 1,7 million are Muslims. Political structure: Germany is a federal parliamentary republic. Federal multi-party system of Parliament type with two Legislative organs: Bundesrat (Lands Representatives are in it) and Bundestag (Parliament). Capital: Berlin. The capital and largest city is Berlin. Germany is a member of the United Nations, NATO, G8 and OECD. Big cities: Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Hanover, Frankfurt am Maine, Köln, Stuttgart, Nurnberg, Bremen. Federal structure of Germany: Germany (Deutschland) is a Federal Republic consisting of sixteen states, known in German as Länder (singular Land). Since Land is the literal German word for "country", the term Bundesländer (federal states; singular Bundesland) is commonly used colloquially, as it is more specific, though technically incorrect within the corpus of German law.
